EYE looks to LED

Outdoor advertising agency Eye has announced it will adopt an LED lighting system for its back-lit panels installed in shopping centres across the USA, in a move to provide a more sustainable solution. So far, LED kits have been fitted in 34 of Eye's 300 US shopping centre sites – which have already produced a reduction in operating costs, says Eye – and the company intends to install them in almost 60 over the next few years. This will eventually result in more than 1,000 Eyelite back-lit units being updated with the new lighting system.

The company states the technology will reduce energy use, and carbon and heat emissions. The systems also include individual timers to ensure the panels switch off when the shopping centres are not open.

"Eye is very excited to take on this green initiative," says Jeff Gunderman, senior vice-president, Eye USA. "Not only is it cost effective, but it's helping promote an environmentally friendly programme for everyone and we're happy to be a part of it."
